Douglas Thompson, MSc, Northwestern University
Doug Thompson has a background in environmental protection, dispute resolution and management. He spent over twenty-five years with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency most recently as the chief of water enforcement. For a number of years prior he was chief of the wetland protection section. For the past ten years he has also been part of EPA’s dispute resolution program, and in that capacity has served as a mediator and facilitator for a number of environmental issues. On assignment as a program associate to the U.S. Institute for Environmental Conflict Resolution in Tucson, Arizona during 1999, his responsibilities included development of a national roster of environmental dispute resolution and consensus building professionals as well as providing direct mediation and facilitation services.
Doug is currently working as a Senior Associate with The Keystone Center 's Science and Public Policy Program. Areas of special interest and expertise include enforcement case negotiation; interagency conflicts concerning regulatory or policy issues; and habitat protection disputes.
He has mediated extensively in the Massachusetts court system. He also has experience mediating EEO, workplace and family disputes.
Exit Strategies: When and How to End a Process Well
Court supervisors Josh Jacks, Doug Thompson, and former court supervisor Ellie Tonkin will participate in a panel presentation on April 16, 2009 at the 11th Annual Spring Conference of the American Bar Association Section on Dispute Resolution in New York City. The conference is titled “ADR: Building Bridges to a Better Society,” and their presentation is titled “Exit Strategies : When and How to End a Process Well.”
