Professor Elizabeth Dugan focuses on issues related to health and aging (e.g., medically impaired older drivers, older patient-health care provider trust and communication).  She is a Fellow of the Gerontological Society of America (Behavioral and Social Science Section).

Dr. Dugan is a graduate of the University of North Carolina Greensboro (PhD Human Development & Family Studies), the University of South Florida (MA Gerontology), and the University of Central Florida (BA Liberal Arts).  Prior to joining Umass Boston professor Dugan taught at the Wake Forest University School of Medicine (Public Health Sciences), the University of Massachusetts Medical School (Geriatric Medicine), and was a Senior Research Scientist at the New England Research Institutes.

Graduate courses taught include Racial and Ethnic Diversity in Aging Societies, and Psychology of Aging.  Dr. Dugan also teaches in the undergraduate gerontology program in the College of Public and Community Service (Action Research, and Physical and Health Aspects of Aging).  She welcomes the opportunity to mentor highly motivated students.

Her scholarship, including her book, The Driving Dilemma: The Complete Resource Guide for Older Drivers and Their Families, generated media coverage on ABCs Good Morning America, CBS evening news, The Wall Street Journal, U.S. News and World Report, Newsweek, and the Boston Globe.  Her research has been funded by the National Institute on Aging, the National Eye Institute, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, the Retirement Research Foundation, and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.
