Graduate Certificate in Gerontology - Program Logo

Two options are available for the Graduate Certificate in Gerontology at UMass Boston:

  1. General Gerontology Focus - Designed to provide students with a broad overview of issues in Gerontology.
  2. Management of Aging Services (MAS) - Designed for individuals in the aging network who are looking to upgrade their skills or advance in new directions within the field or for those looking to enter the field of Aging Services.

These two focus options allow students to follow the same path they might follow within the Master's Degree program, which offers both a research track and a Management of Aging Services track. Students who earn the Graduate Certificate in Gerontology may transfer credits from the program toward the MS Degree in Gerontology at UMass Boston.

Graduate Certificate Admissions

Students admitted to the graduate certificate program may be enrolled in another graduate program at the University of Massachusetts Boston or some other university or they may pursue the certificate as a stand-alone course of study. Before admission to the Certificate Program students are required to interview with the Graduate Program Director (call 617.287.7300 or email gerontology@umb.edu).

Prospective students interested in applying for a Graduate Certificate in Gerontology must submit an application portfolio. Applicants must complete an application form obtained from the UMB Graduate Admissions Office. The following web site contains appropriate forms and other relevant information:

A list of additional application requirements may also be obtained from the Graduate Admissions Office. Upon receipt of a complete application portfolio, the Admissions Committee in the Gerontology Department will review the application and inform the applicant of its admissions decision in a timely manner.
