Newsmaker Series: Press Conference with Governor Deval Patrick

A press conference on April 24 that connected Gov. Deval Patrick with representatives of more than 20 ethnic-media outlets drew extensive coverage in the ethnic press in April and May. Boston-based El Mundo published an interview with Frank Herron, editor in chief of the UMass Boston-based New England Ethnic Newswire, about the significance of the meeting. An editorial in that paper said the session launched “a new era of communication between the State’s highest office and the diverse ethnic communities that make up the Commonwealth.” Numerous outlets carried reports of the meeting, including WUNI-TV, El Mundo, Rumbo News, El Planeta, INDIA New England, Brazilian Times, Epoch Times, O Jornal, TuBoston.com, NewAmericaMedia.org, OGlobo.com and Sin Tao.

2010 Census Information Seminar: "Making Sense of the Census"

Kathleen Ludgate, director of the Boston Regional Census Center, speaks to ethnic-media journalists during the 2010 Census Information Seminar on March 9 at UMass Boston. Some of the ethnic media represented at the event were O Jornal, Univision, the Bay State Banner, Brazilian Times, Epoch Times and the White Eagle.

The Brazilian Times (in Portuguese) covered the event on March 11. The New England Ethnic Newswire's Eduardo de Oliveira also wrote about the session (in English).
